6. Standards and regulations
6.1 Standardization
The characteristics and performance of materials and packaging are specified by reference to specifications, standards and regulations. .
Standards are the result of a consensus between all parties concerned. As such, they are reference documents. On the other hand, standards are not mandatory, except in the case of a ministerial decision requiring the application of a given standard.
In the packaging sector, standards can be divided into six categories:
terminology standards, essential for all other standards ;
dimensional standards, in particular for the dimensional coordination of distribution systems;
