1.1 Definition of Hybrid Dynamical Systems

Most real-life automated systems are Hybrid Dynamical Systems (HDS) . Hybrid dynamics require the coexistence of several models, levels of description, fields of expertise and tools to fully describe the system's operation and design its diagnostics. The design of these systems therefore involves the coexistence of models described by continuous variables (governed, for example, by differential equations) and discrete models described by discrete events.
