3. Diagnostic methods for hybrid dynamic systems

The effectiveness of an SDH diagnostic method can be measured by its ability to exploit the continuous aspect through continuous state variables and the discrete aspect through discrete events. These two aspects are exploited with the aim of diagnosing parametric and/or discrete faults affecting the (dynamic) behavior of SDHs.

Diagnostic methods for SDH can be broadly classified into three categories:

  • parametric fault diagnosis methods ;

  • discrete fault diagnosis methods ;

  • parametric and discrete fault diagnosis methods.

These methods are described in detail in the following paragraphs.
