ABSTRACT

In the pharmaceutical industry, a strongly regulated sector, distribution logistics is an integral part of the activity and is based on the combination of principles and recommendations. This article follows two actors from the pharmaceutical distribution chain, an internal depository and a wholesaler, step by step in the elaboration of their strategy and preparation development. Although these two approaches are fundamentally different they are highly instructive; the first is based on a strong policy in terms of continuous improvement and the second is more oriented towards economic profitability. In both cases, an impact in terms of flow and process security can be observed.

 INTRODUCTION

Distribution logistics in the pharmaceutical industry was developed from a theoretical point of view in the article [AG 5 435] . The present dossier complements the previous one by proposing to follow two players in the pharmaceutical distribution chain: an in-house stockist and a wholesaler. These two examples propose different management approaches and objectives:

  • In the first instance, we will study the case of a pharmaceutical laboratory's internal custodian with a strong policy of continuous improvement;

  • secondly, we'll look at how an economic strategy has impacted the business in terms of flow and process security.
