3. The purpose of connections
3.1 Connection definition
A connection is a comparison of a measuring instrument with a reference value delivered by a standard or reference material, or other calibrated equipment. Whatever the reference, it must be calibrated by an organization linked to the recognized metrology chain.
The advantage of having your standards or equipment calibrated by an accredited laboratory lies in the fact that the techniques, resources, calibration uncertainties and technical competence of the accredited laboratory are validated by a third party (the accrediting body).
This also guarantees that the equipment is connected to standards referenced by the connection chain, and therefore to national or international standards.
