10.  Traceability in agriculture

In France, the agricultural sector has a competitiveness problem: our direct competitors produce at a lower cost than we do, but they don't necessarily produce the same thing as we do. To be able to prove that what we produce at home is worth more than what is produced elsewhere, we need to be able to go back to the source, i.e. to be able to sell consumers products for which we can go back to the origin. To do this, we need to be able to connect systems so that, from a batch of products, we can trace the batch of agricultural raw materials. We're talking here about enhancing the value of origins, terroirs and production methods. GS1 is currently working on a project in partnership with a major player in the world of agriculture, so that a meat tray (for example) can be traced back to the producer, the farm, the location and the working philosophy.
