3.1 Categories
The list of functionalities available in RFID middleware can be organized into five categories, with each category corresponding to an element of RFID systems. These five elements are RFID tags, RFID devices, RFID data or events, RFID business processes and RFID workstations.
Figure 1 shows the functional architecture of RFID middleware. The red arrows indicate the direction of commands issued and the blue arrows the direction of responses received.
