The branch of mathematics that studies topological spaces is called General Topology or Point-Set Topology. It is both an abstraction of analysis and geometry (p. 55 of ). The term Set-Theoretic Topology is sometimes used (p. 1 and p. 61 of ), but should be reserved for the first part of General Topology, which deals only with general topological spaces (i.e. the articles [AF97]
