3. Applications: an urban boulevard

The aim of this section is to use the LWR model to evaluate the operation of a road infrastructure. The site chosen for this study is a realistic urban boulevard, enabling us to highlight the various applications of the LWR model. This case study is made up of geometric singularities typically encountered in most of our cities. It features three different sources of congestion, sometimes referred to as hard spots:

  • lane reduction, which is a reduction in capacity that is fixed in space and constant over time;

  • the fire cycle, which is a reduction in capacity that is fixed in space and variable in time;

  • the bus, which is a mobile capacity reduction on the network.
