In the previous section, we saw how the LWR model could be used to reproduce and assess the impact of several sources of congestion. These sources were studied independently, but it is clear that a road network, whether urban or motorway, constitutes a succession of several sources of congestion. It is possible for congestion arising from each discontinuity to interact with each other.

To model these interactions, it is necessary to model the network as a whole. Even if it is possible to continue to solve the LWR model analytically, the task becomes particularly arduous even on the scale of a small network (small urban corridor, neighborhood, etc.).
