1. Problems

The problems posed by the implementation of CAD/CAM are of several kinds, and this alone would suffice to explain the diversity of solutions on offer. Schematically, we can distinguish three main categories.

1.1 Boolean combinations

A shape consists of a Boolean combination of classical solids such as rectangles, cylinders and cones of revolution, spheres and toroids, to which must be added connecting surfaces (fillets or curves) whose role is secondary.
