1. Industrial implementation of ion exchange
In industrial use, the solution to be treated percolates through the ion exchange resin placed in an exchange column, colloquially known as a canister. In most cases, the exhausted resin is regenerated and rinsed before it can be used again. This is known as the exchange cycle.
1.1 Description of a complete cycle
The cycle is divided into several phases:
saturation (or production) ;
Lifting;
regeneration ;
rinsing.
Figure 1 shows these four stages in schematic form.
