1. Participatory science

1.1 Definition

Participatory science, also known as "citizen science", is a research process that brings together scientific experts and the general public. In other words, it's a research process that links citizens and researchers, each bringing a useful level of knowledge or involvement to the other. In fact, we should be talking about "research projects with participatory approaches that lead to action research projects".

In the context of modern research, participatory sciences appeared in the 1980s in the health sector and in Anglo-Saxon countries. The aim was to involve patients in the development of new treatments, and to study their feelings with a view to improving new drugs (well-being, side effects, treatment...
