6. Keys to success

The success of a river restoration project is never guaranteed. The diversity and complexity of the pitfalls that punctuate the life of such projects make the final outcome of the project, and the way in which the population will appropriate the newly-created site, highly uncertain. However, a certain number of factors appear more or less directly as "facilitators" for the long-term life of the site once in the hands of the manager.

6.1 Controlling water quality

It's fairly obvious that, regulatory considerations aside, the quality of the water flowing in the restored or reopened river is a key factor in the image the river will convey to its viewers.
