1. Context
Since the early 1990s, there has been very active research in the field of "green chemistry", a sustainable and responsible petroleum-free chemistry that uses raw materials that respect the environment and our health, such as wood, plant co-products, natural fibers and marine resources. It's important to note that this type of chemistry is not new, as agriculture, forestry and the sea have provided products and energy for pre-industrial civilizations, giving them a respectful attitude towards the environment. The objectives of green chemistry include using renewable resources such as bioproducts (biopolymers) instead of fossil resources, finding alternatives to synthetic materials of petrochemical origin, designing innovative biodegradable products and improving existing industrial processes.
