1. Context

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have a wide range of physico-chemical properties and uses . They are essentially solvents, plasticizers, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, sulfur compounds and nitrogen compounds, all of which can cause odor nuisance. Their definition, the regulation of their concentrations and the associated measurement methods therefore depend on the gaseous environments to be characterized (emissions from stationary sources, ambient air, workplace air and indoor air). For trace analysis, which mainly concerns outdoor ambient air and indoor air, different sampling principles apply depending on the measurement objectives
