1.1 Typology
Currently, from a technical point of view, French regulations have defined three classes of waste storage facility, depending on the type of waste received, which are differentiated in particular by the degree of permeability of the site's subsoil:
Class I landfills for final special industrial waste with a minimum bedrock thickness of 5 m and a permeability of 10 –9 m/s;
Class II landfills for final household and similar waste with a bedrock at least 1 m thick and a permeability of 10 –9 m/s, followed by a layer at least 5 m thick and a permeability of 10 –6 ...
