4. Accidentology and feedback

4.1 Introduction

In 1992, at national level, the Ministry of the Environment decided to set up a structure within the French Pollution and Risk Prevention Directorate (DPPR) specifically responsible for feedback: the Bureau d'Analyse des Risques et Pollutions Industrielles (BARPI). An integral part of the Industrial Environment Department, which leads the Ministry's industrial risk prevention policy, BARPI has three main missions:

  • centralize and analyze data relating to accidents, serious pollution and significant incidents occurring in or linked to the activities of facilities classified for environmental protection;
