1. Strategic GHG reduction challenges

The Earth's climate is mainly determined by three factors: solar energy, the greenhouse effect and atmospheric and oceanic circulation. .

Thanks to the presence of greenhouse gases naturally present in the atmosphere (mainly water vapour and carbon dioxide), the solar energy re-emitted by the earth's soils in the form of infrared radiation is not completely expelled into space. This energy, "stored" at the Earth's surface at 155 W/m 2 , results in an average surface temperature of 15°C. Without an atmosphere, this temperature would be close to freezing. Without an atmosphere, this temperature would be close to -18°C.
