1. French and European standards: general aspects
In France, odor measurement is based on the application of texts drawn up by the Association Française de NORmalisation (AFNOR). However, AFNOR standards become obsolete as soon as an equivalent European standard is published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).
In April 2003, a European standard, referenced "EN 13725" (CEN/TC264, 2003 ), was issued by CEN/TC264, the "Air Quality" Technical Committee of CEN. As its application is mandatory in France, this standard was transcribed by AFNOR in October 2003, under the reference NF X 43-327
