5. Eco-optimization of motor sizing for home automation
The LCA tool is used here to optimize the sizing of an electromagnetic component: a single-phase induction motor for home automation applications (figure 14 ). In this example, we consider two objectives to be minimized:
life-cycle energy, which we consider to be a major environmental impact in electrotechnical applications;
the total mass of active parts, which indirectly represents another environmental impact, notably through the consumption of raw material resources.
