2. M2M and communication networks

Machine-to-machine communication (figure 5 ), commonly referred to as M2M in telecoms, corresponds to a star-shaped architecture in which machines, sensors and other objects collect data which is transmitted or aggregated via gateways or the network directly, to be analyzed and transformed, usually centrally, before being redistributed to applications and end users (figure 6 ).
