7. Conclusion
The number of objects to be connected is therefore growing. Numerous technologies are being studied or tested to absorb the growing traffic and increasingly sophisticated use cases. Institutions such as 3GPP, ETSI and other standardization bodies are actively involved in defining a 5th generation network. These bodies bring together the main players in the world of telecommunications, such as operators and vendors.
However, the big absentees from this work are Google, Facebook, Amazon and other Internet providers. Moreover, there are few, if any, initiatives on a truly convergent next-generation fixed-mobile network to manage billions of objects moving seamlessly between fixed and mobile networks.
