Whether we're talking about freezing or dehydration, the many applications of prolonged preservation of living biological systems help us to understand its essential principle. The preservation of a functional biological system is possible when the cessation of cellular functions takes place under conditions where the chemical and physical degradation of cells (usually compensated for by biological reactions) is also slowed or halted.
