8. Conclusion

Knowledge of and strict compliance with GMO legislation by scientists during research work and by economic operators during commercial developments are essential in the various fields concerned by transgenesis in agriculture and food.

Community law and French legislation are particularly concerned with issues relating to the release of GMOs into the environment and their placing on the market, with particular emphasis on risk assessment at various levels, such as the consequences of pure genetics, environmental impact and consumer health in general. Labelling requirements are also specified in the texts.
