2.1 A brief history of SimaPro
In the 1990s, LCA methodology began to gain acceptance as a scientifically valid method for assessing the environmental impact of products.
At the first Dutch Ecodesign Conference in 1990, Mark Goedkoop, who was responsible for the conference content, set up workshops around an LCA tool.
Following these first workshops, Mr. Goedkoop obtained a budget from the Ministry of Economic Affairs to update the SimaVera tool with the CML Leiden, which became SimaPro for "Systematische Milieu Analyser van Producten".
