Environmental protection was first formalized at international level in 1902 with a convention signed in Paris by nine countries to protect "birds useful to agriculture" . Another convention, the International Conference for the Protection of Fauna and Flora, was adopted in London in 1933, with the aim of protecting endangered species and recognizing protected areas such as national parks.
