1. Roles and missions

The missions of the Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais (LNE), in its role as pilot of the French national metrology network (figure 1 ), are primarily to implement the units of the International System of Units (SI) and to provide users of all origins (research, industry or inspection bodies) with access to the metrological references they need, within a rigorously established traceability framework.
