ABSTRACT

A large number of measurement devices incorporate an optical fiber. This article reviews the set of measurements in which an optical fiber is incorporated: mechanical (displacement sensors), electric (voltage sensors), magnetic and nuclear, up to thermometers (spectral analysis) and chemical sensors (alcane vapor sensors). Following is a description of devices using optical fiber control; the operation of presence sensors, endoscopy and qualitative control.
