6. Special penetrant testing materials

In addition to the "high-temperature" and "low-temperature" penetrant testing materials mentioned in Chapter 1.4, other penetrant testing products have been developed to meet needs not met by "standard" materials.

6.1 Thixotropic materials

The advantage of fluorescent, colour contrast or dual-purpose thixotropic penetrants is that they remain fixed in the areas to be inspected, eliminating the risk of migration into areas where removal would be difficult or impossible, or into areas not compatible with penetrants (painted areas, for example).
