4. Magnetic particle materials

The range of magnetic particle materials includes: detection medias, contrast aid paints and solvents.

Unlike penetrant testing materials, there is no standardized classification of detection media in terms of their detection sensitivity levels.

4.1 Detection media

Different detection media are available:

  • black or coloured for inspection in artificial white light or daylight: these materials are used with a minimum illuminance of 500 lux. They are used for inspection of large parts, or on site when sufficient obscuration cannot be obtained using a fluorescent detection media. In most cases, the use of black or coloured detection media requires the application of a contrast aid paint...
