7. Installation equipment
Magnetic particle testing offers great flexibility in adapting to the different shapes and sizes of the parts to be inspected. For spot inspections on site, even in difficult situations, a portable electromagnet or a current generator combined with a detection medium packaged in aerosol dispensers are generally sufficient to carry out the inspection. On the other hand, as soon as inspection rates need to be increased - for example, in the manufacture of automotive parts - the equipment required to carry out the inspection will become more complex and automated.
The Standard ISO 9934-3 provides valuable recommendations on the equipment needed to implement the method. For further information on magnetization techniques, please refer to Chapter 3.
