Electromagnetic dosimetry expresses the effect induced by an electromagnetic field distribution within biological tissues such as the human body.

The electric field is due to the presence of charges, while the magnetic field is due to the presence of moving charges. Maxwell's equations unify electrical and magnetic phenomena. The term "electromagnetism" is therefore used.
