4. Finite element vibration calculations

Since industrial structures are often complex assemblies made up of elements that are themselves more or less simple, they cannot be treated analytically in the same way as simple elements such as ropes, chains, pipes, bars, plates and shells [14] . The finite element method is therefore essential for calculating the eigenmodes and nominal transfer functions of any structure, however complex. Some software packages can even simulate any kind of excitation (machinery vibrations, earthquakes, etc.), predicting the vibratory response at any point of the mesh [15][35] , drawing up energy and stress maps, and thus explaining all the consequences of the vibratory situation represented.
