1. Photoreflective tachometers

1.1 Measuring principle

In a photoreflective tachometer, the sensor consists of a photoelectric transmitter and receiver. To take a measurement, simply place a reflective target on the object whose rotation speed is to be measured, and then aim the tachometer's beam at this object. The photoelectric sensor then generates a pulse each time the reflective target passes in front of the light beam (figure 1 ).
