2. Virtual SEA analysis

Virtual SEA analysis is similar in principle to experimental SEA. The data generated by measurement in the previous case are here generated synthetically from a finite element model.

The finite element model of a structure is loaded with forces at a number of nodes, usually chosen at random, so as to cover the system's extent uniformly. The response at each node is then calculated for successive excitation of the other nodes.

A transfer function matrix is then constructed and analyzed to extract the corresponding SEA model.

The substructuring step, which consists in grouping nodes into zones corresponding to subsystems, is automated here thanks to matrix partitioning algorithms specifically developed for SEA substructuring.
