5. Conclusion
Research and the first professional applications of virtual reality began in the 1990s. A democratization of VR techniques, due to falling costs, has emerged since 2015, enabling uses for the general public. This new craze has triggered huge investments by major international digital companies. As a result, VR techniques will continue to evolve in terms of performance and lower costs. But don't be under any illusions: progress will be slower than the "marketing" speeches of companies in the sector suggest.
Some applications of virtual reality concern robotics, in particular teleoperation, human-robot collaboration, and the ergonomics of operator workstations in automated and robotized installations.
