Area-scan camera

Camera whose elements are arranged in the form of a matrix.

Line-scan camera

Camera with elements arranged along a line.

Pixel (Pixel: Picture element)

Image element generally corresponding to a photosensitive element (photosite or photoreceptor) of the image sensor.

Resolution or definition

Number of light-sensitive elements in an image sensor. Resolution is defined either by the number of pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions, or by the total number of pixels.
