6. Sensor network evolution

The short-, medium- and long-term future holds great promise for sensor networks. Until recently, these networks were in an experimental and development phase. Research funding agencies and industrial research and development centers are devoting considerable budgets to developing products, standards, protocols, etc., with the aim of facilitating their implementation. Today, sensor networks can be used in a wide range of environments, including the smart home, hospitals, industry and the military.

Research continues to perfect the operation of future sensor networks. A great deal of work is being done to solve the three major difficulties facing sensors:

energy ;

transmitting power ;

storage and computing capacity.
