5. Dynamic routing

Dynamic routing consists in finding routes between two network nodes and being able to modify this route in response to network dynamics, so that information is always correctly routed to reach its destination.

In the field of ad hoc networks, this routing has been widely developed, giving rise to robust, high-performance protocols. A number of sensor network standards use these protocols, adapting them to the constraints imposed by sensor networks. The protocols of the MANET group are the most advanced and widely used.

MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork) is a working group of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), which has been working since the 1990s to standardize IP-based ad-hoc protocols.
