The field of plant maintenance, rehabilitation, renovation and upgrading offers a wide range of applications for decision-making criteria, at different phases in the life of a project.
The maintenance of a typical facility occupied by an organization is usually in line with the available budget and the desired level of performance. Once a certain level of disrepair is reached, maintenance costs to keep the facility running rise, while its physical and functional condition deteriorates, reducing its level of performance. Large private and institutional organizations with large fleets of facilities (i.e. universities, hospitals, etc.) face the problem of prioritizing maintenance and rehabilitation projects at two levels:
