Officially born in 1971 for medical applications, X-ray tomography has evolved considerably since then, in both the medical and industrial fields. Seeing inside an object to reconstruct its internal structure in three dimensions - tomography's field of excellence - appears to be a major asset in the development and manufacture of industrial parts, for which good material quality (absence of defects) remains the surest guarantee against weaknesses and embrittlement during operation.
