6. Comparison with other NDT methods

A young non-destructive testing technique compared with the other main methods used in industry, tomography has its origins in the medical field, where it has revolutionized diagnostic aids.

Unlike radiography or gammagraphy, to which it can easily be compared, tomography enables the interior of an object, material or structure to be visualized and, above all, located in 3D. X-ray tomography can therefore easily replace "global" NDT methods, which only provide partial 2D projections of the singularities being sought. By providing local internal data on virtual cross-sections, X-ray tomography rapidly and very precisely provides information that was previously lacking in terms of perfect knowledge of the interior of materials and parts.
