The aim of pre-processing is to correct the acquired images for instrumental defects, to convert the images into luminance units for geo-referenced instrument input, and then to process the images to convert them into optical surface quantities or surface temperature. At each of these stages, a quality criterion must be applied in order to assess the quality of the data and processing. Nevertheless, a preliminary step is necessary to characterize the instrument and deduce its radiometric and geometric calibration. This process, although similar for all remote sensing instruments, depends on the optical configuration
