3. Equilibrium spectroscopy

Because of their major contribution to the advancement of THz spectroscopy techniques, we will concentrate solely on THz spectrometers based on optical methods, the principles of which we have already described. In view of the extreme diversity of materials and methods used, the reader may wish to refer to books dedicated to the subject.

3.1 Tunable continuous terahertz sources

Among the most advanced THz sources, offering performance compatible with systematic characterization requirements, are tunable continuous THz sources. These are compact, largely automated systems whose operation has been optimized to deliver a good signal-to-noise ratio and excellent spectral resolution over a wide bandwidth.
