1. Superficially porous particles
Superficially porous particles (SPPs) consist of a solid body of non-porous silica coated with a layer of porous silica offering the same chromatographic properties as conventional supports (figure 1 ). Various technologies have been developed by manufacturers to synthesize these supports. The most common involves stacking layers of colloidal particles until the desired porous layer size is achieved
