5. Conclusion

Since the early 1980s, oxygen consumption calorimeters have contributed to a better understanding of how a fire develops. In some sectors, they have been adopted as a tool for assessing the potential contribution of a material or object to fire risk, and have become indispensable as they are imposed by a legal/regulatory framework. A major challenge remains: how to transpose the results obtained on a small scale to a larger scale. A multi-scale approach is desirable: start with small-scale tests to extract certain "fire" properties, but to verify their representativeness we need to move on to scales closer to reality.
