Developments in mineralization systems over the last ten years have not only been in the field of geosciences, but have also been the result of extensive research in the chemical industries, particularly on behalf of the automotive industry.

This is the case for studies on platinum group elements (PGEs), which are used as catalysts in the chemical industry and in catalytic converters in the automotive industry. Given the high cost of these noble metals, manufacturers demand to know exactly how much of these materials are needed to minimize their concentrations during the oxidation of volatile organic compounds. In the particular case of these PGEs, working on the best means of putting them into solution also means ensuring their efficient extraction from used catalytic converters.
