5. Conclusion

The strategy presented for NMR structure determination is highly effective for medium-sized molecules. In most cases, basic 1D and 2D NMR methods are sufficient to achieve the desired objective. However, the methods presented are of course only partially applicable:

  • organometallic molecules: in this case, we need to take into account the potentially significant effects of metal atoms and, if possible, exploit the NMR study of these atoms;

  • organic or biological macromolecules: to overcome the difficulties arising from the very large size of these molecules, new, more sophisticated 2D NMR experiments and 3D NMR experiments have been developed.
