2. Selection and qualification of subcontracting laboratories

2.1 The selection

Accreditation is the preferred means of proving a subcontractor's competence.

For an identical service, accreditation provides proof of competence without prior assessment. The laboratory does not have to take the place of the accreditor to prove the competence of its subcontractor.

Extract from COFRAC document LAB REF 02 :

"It is up to the laboratory to demonstrate the competence of any subcontractors it uses for analysis, testing or calibration.
